Last Tuesday night (September 30, given that it was after midnight) and again this Tuesday night (October 7) I was awoken at about 3 a.m. and spent a little time tossing and turning in bed before I decided to get up and converse with the spirits who woke me up. I went into the yoga room, sat on my meditation cushions, and did my tuning-in Pranayama, what I call the Kyy Breath. Almost instantaneously I saw and felt the presence of some new beings whom I had never consciously met before. So after grounding myself in the Golden Light of Grace and the Highest Good of All Beings, I joined them in conversation.


As usual in these kinds of spirit encounters, I felt the electrical charge of the merging of our Mental Bodies. Yet with these beings that charge was many times more powerful than my normal experience. And in many ways this experience itself was the content as well as the effect of their message to me.

They began by having me focus on the intensity of this super-charged connection, relaxing as it surged throughout every fiber of my body—or, more appropriately, bodies. For my physical body was not the source of these feelings but simply the last layer of resonance. What I quickly learned was that in this moment my Physical, Etheric, Astral, Mental, and Causal Bodies were simultaneously engaged in this charged merger of their bodies with mine. And this experience of my Causal Body, which to my memory was the first time ever for me on a conscious level in this lifetime, became the focus of the entire message.

image002Before going into more detail about these body mergers and charges, however, I thought it important to find out who they were and what their intentions were. When I asked, they immediately told me that they were known as the Manataka and—as many other a being has done—told me that I could look them up later on Google if I wished to, but I might not find much there.

I should mention here that I was receiving a lot of this information through various means other than through conscious verbal telepathic communication (although there was plenty of that, too). Much of what I “heard” or “saw” was presented to me in energetic bundles. I can only compare these bundles to warm, almost-molten balls of wax that carried immense amounts of information being released as the wax balls melted into my energy body and then spread throughout my other bodies. I realized then that the electric sensations I had felt during our Mental Body mergers were themselves transfers of dense charges of information. In other words, while I could actually “hear” them in their telepathic linguistic gestures, at least ten times as much information was simultaneously “melting” into my system.

I then came to understand through means that I cannot describe that they were beings who in part are associated with the North American continent’s river systems. I could see them hovering like a spirit fog just feet above the Missouri River as it winds its way through the state of Missouri on its way to the Mississippi River. I asked them if they were responsible for the flow of traffic in and over these river systems and they said yes, but not in the exclusive way that that might sound. In other words, they are not the only ones responsible for such traffic and at the same time they are responsible for far more than simply river traffic. In fact, they oversee the coordination of the efforts of other classes of beings who themselves oversee the atmosphere (such as the Matakin), the subterranean realms (such as the Kachinas), and the surface of the planet itself. In some way that I don’t yet understand, their work as conductors of all of these strands of energy and information takes place primarily through the energetic streams of the rivers, and especially through the river vortex systems located at all conjunctions of other rivers and streams.

After telling me about their relationship to the energetic expressions of the planet’s geographical systems (such as rivers, underground channels, atmospheric passages, and much more), the Manataka then turned my attention to my own bodies. They explained that there is an important parallel structure that marks both the planetary and the individual system of bodies. In other words, the question of proper alignment of Mental to Astral to Etheric to Physical Bodies involves the relationship between individual beings and the planetary being at large. If humans are out of alignment, to a certain extent so is the planet.


After letting this parallel between human and planetary bodies sink into my consciousness, they began demonstrating this individual-planetary alignment by having me focus my attention simultaneously on the physical plane of the planet and the physical plane of my own body. I could feel in my own body the physical flows that they were engaging the planet; I could feel in my own energy body the etheric flows that they were engaging the planet; I could feel in my own astral body the astral flows that they were engaging the planet; and I could feel in my own mental body the mental flows that they were engaging the planet. And, most importantly, my conscious bodily experience of these individual/planetary alignments was in itself the synchronization of my own causal body and the causal body of the planet. This conscious experiential harmony of individual and planetary bodies is itself the causal body. In other words, the causal body involves the recognition from a higher plane of conscious experience the total integration of the part-to-whole expression of the planet as experienced, for example, through us (as through any being who arrives at such a higher level of consciousness).

At this point I realized that before now I had had no real idea what the term “causal” might refer to. I simply understood it as a higher, more-rarefied level of energetic and conscious existence—which it is—but I had no idea how this higher level might come into being as an object of conscious understanding through this totalizing kind of energetic alignment. Now I knew the reality of this concept through my own deepest experience, which is what real knowledge is anyway. Abstract concepts are important way stations, but they do not rise one up onto a true plane of knowledge until they become concrete experiential concepts. In this way, G.W.F. Hegel was right on target in his Phenomenology of Spirit in his description of the dialectical process mocing from the Abstract to the Concrete.

The Manataka then drew my attention to the fact that this unifying multi-body energetic experience they had led me through was in fact a very important aligning exercise for humans to practice on a daily basis. With this totalizing causal encompassing relationship of bodies in mind, any physical activity could function as the vehicle for allowing this causal alignment to ground itself in all of our bodies. Qi gong, yoga, t’ai chi, hiking, swimming, and so on, when engaged from such a unifying perspective, each become a “proper” physical vehicle for manifesting the causal body in our conscious experience. And one very important end result is that through such multi-body exercises, we clear all of our various bodies of harmful energetic blockages. This is what disease is after all—an energetic block; and healing is the process of freeing this blocked energy back into its proper flow and circulation. The conclusion the Manataka left me with last week was that it is crucial that we keep all of our bodily, planetary, and cosmic circulatory, emanatory, and receptive channels cleared by engaging them on a daily basis.

As for the physical body, their suggestion was that we be sure to maintain a practice that includes bodily, respiratory, and mental exercises. In this way, we prevent systemic blockages of many different kinds and maintain the energetic equilibrium we were designed to engage.

Last night, as the Manataka reiterated last week’s lesson for me, I learned that these beings are a class of Mahadevas, that is, a higher grade of devas, whose primary role is that of coordinator or conductor of the activities of all other beings in relation to the Causal Body of the planetary being. They suggested that they operate on the Buddhic Plane, but that for the moment I should continue to focus on the Causal Plane at this point in my conscious development and alignment.

The Manataka, I learned, are in league with the particular class of Elves who function as the overseers of planetary portals and with whom I have been working since my first night in our house three summers ago. In fact, last night’s “communicative event” began with the Elves making initial contact with me, confirming and validating the information I had received last week so that I could relax a bit more and take in the information I was about to receive on this night without the paranoiac blockages that rightly arise when I am not sure of the nature and intentions of the beings I am interacting with. Then the elves cleared the Elfin Portal of any encumbrances or distorting beings so that I could maintain a clear channel to the Manataka.

One further crucial element of the lesson for last night was my recognition that it can be helpful to see the Causal Plane as equivalent to what could be called the Yogic Plane. In this sense, the causal plane stages the conscious unity of the host of bodies I have been referring to here. And this higher mode of union is, after all, what the term yoga refers to. As such, the causal body itself serves as a portal bridging the lower and higher realms of being. The causal body is the hinge-point, the gateway through which we can pass as the causal body wraps all elements of the lower bodies into one yogic field staging our lift-off into the higher spheres of consciousness.


Following their advice, I did look the Manataka up on Google. I have found references to work done by others related to Manataka as a place name: the Place of Peace, the Sacred Mountain, and Valley of the Vapors. [See, for example,] I have not had the chance as yet to work through this material and meditate on what if any direct connections I might find between these beings who identify themselves as the Manataka to me and this Sacred Mountain revealed to Lee Standing Bear Moore. I leave that for future exploration.

I have found, however, that everything the Manataka have told me is verified in many places on the internet. Again, I do not have the time as yet to lay these connections out other than to say that these finds through Google are very satisfying.

The Matakin on Human Disturbances of the Atmosphere

Gabriel, you were asking what we Matakin might be interested in when we make contact with humans such as yourself.

One of those aspects is, as you can see in front you, a beautiful blue Illinois sky filled with chemtrails and filled with all kinds of human-produced pollutants in the atmosphere. Given that our realm is the atmosphere—many layers of it—and that our job is to oversee what goes on in the atmosphere, we are making contact with people such as yourself to try to initiate a larger awareness of exactly what this chemtrail phenomenon means for the Planet and for the beings on it, including human beings.

chem trailsThis is not simply a question of pollutants in the usual conception. This is a total disruption of the vibrational system that is in place in the atmosphere. Of course, airplanes in general have caused such a disruption, and that has gone on for quite some time. But the effects of the chemical engineering in the atmosphere are far more severe than those of plane traffic and smoke and pollutants.

This kind of disruption in the higher atmosphere and the so-called geo-engineering involved in supposed weather control is having a great impact on the Planet as a whole. The weather patterns certainly are disrupted. But that is not all, for, as we suggested, there is an entire extremely complicated web of vibrational networks at play and interplay in the atmosphere, and this particular network is being severely disrupted.

Another realm for this is satellite traffic, not simply the satellites themselves but the communication between the satellites and the computerized networks on the surface—radio waves of all sorts, microwaves. All of this has a tremendous impact on the integrity of the atmospheric balance and, in turn, the Planetary balance. For the atmosphere is the breath of the Planet. It is the spirit—the inspiration, the respiration—of the entire Planetary Being.

So the fact that you are involved in education concerning sustainability suggests that we might contact you to urge you to pay more attention to atmospheric conditions as they are impacted by human intervention and human interaction in the skies.

queenofthesunThe movie that you were watching in class concerning the bees and the hives, The Queen of the Sun, is itself an example of what we are talking about, for one of the things the movie expresses is the fact there is a vast communicational network established for each bee in the hive that allows for constant directional input and attention. As a vibration is established in the hive, it is unique to each hive. And thus in addition to all the other disruptive factors discussed in the movie, which are primarily having to do with intervention in pollination processes and in genetic engineering, we are also talking about the atmospheric engineering and its impact on the insect world at large—and especially on such a species as the honeybee, that plays such a crucial role in the survival of so many species on the Planet, including plant species.

So we do call on humans to reinaugurate certain kinds of ceremonies of recognition and communication and interplay with us and the other beings of the atmosphere. And bringing all of that together with the interactions with the beings of the waters, of the surface, below the surface, the fire, and other forms of energy, we hope for a greater degree of recognition—mutual recognition and communication—so that we can begin to address some of these difficulties.

The Matakin Emissaries Between the Heavens and the Earth

[The following is a transcript from an audio file recorded while driving between Nashville and Cahokia. I had attended the first day of proceedings (Thursday, September 18, 2014) at the Star Knowledge Conference at Montgomery Bell State Park about a half hour west of Nashville. On this Friday morning I was still greatly affected by the spirit energy of that gathering when the Matakin Sky Spirits began communicating with me near Princeton, Kentucky. I had first come into conscious contact with the Matakin in western Illinois on May 26, 2014, and now they were giving me more information about the role they play as emissaries and guardians of the Earth’s atmosphere.]

There are no times better than this time, Gabriel. There are very few times when you would already enter into this conversation so baptized, so to speak, washed in the fluid energy of spirit that surrounds you and flows through your being. You are in an energetic circuit at this moment—

Wow! I just saw these amazing egrets in this lake I’m going over in southwestern Kentucky! I’m right outside Princeton, exit 45 on I-24. [Spirit language.] Ah, this is all so familiar! This is all an energetic line. [Spirit language.] And, not surprisingly, I’m going by a sign that says Kentucky State Penitentiary. They always put the prisons on these power lines! And they must tap into that power in some way in this mechanism of control, which I don’t fully understand—I think I don’t want to understand. I’m in denial. [Spirit talk.]

—So yes, Gabriel, you are in touch with the Matakin once more. You’re coming into the circuit, the circle. There is that 50 mile radius around the initial perimeter, but the energy strikes out from there in such amazing flows. Take it in. Experience it and ride with it, because you are riding on the fluid river energy of the continent! The Mississippi itself is one of those conduits. But that is only one. You are in the etheric plane. You are riding the etheric train of energy right now as you travel along this route. You are exactly right: this route, I-24 from Nashville into Illinois follows a major energetic line, a ley line that conducts major spirit energy, so to speak, from one point to another.

I-24 mapThis is a transit point. This is a line where spirit moves along in dimensions where time and space are no longer appropriate in terms of categories of understanding. And yet there is a literal three-dimensional base that contains this particular multidimensional energetic line. But along this line it’s a linear portal in a sense that allows for multiple pints of entry into massive, infinite, transdimensional travel.—

The lake is beautiful! The energy is so thick. And I am in this interesting state of consciousness where I am simultaneously taking in and channeling so many messages, and yet speaking in my own voice. [Spirit talk.] This is so thick! So the Matakin, I’m coming to realize, have a connection to the Kachinas. They are not identical to the Kachinas—at least the Kachinas who contact me, who are primarily the guardians, the overseers of the energetic portals from beneath the surface of the Earth. And they help, they oversee, they direct in many ways the travel of various entities along those energetic lines below the surface. But the Matakin work with them and in many senses this is a kind of joint energetic effort on a devic level where the Kachinas are working from below the subterranean levels up to the surface and the Matakin work from the atmosphere down to the surface, and in terms of surface level, it’s a sort of yin-yang relationship. The Sky Spirits and the subterranean Earth Spirits. Not that these Kachinas are solely Earth Spirits, but that is their primary relationship when it comes to human beings. [Yeshe anna hakamah hoike.] And they make use of subterranean portals and passageways that through the connection to the inner sun within the Earth allow for a kind of interdimensional travel to other universes in other planes of existence that humans can barely imagine.

The Matakin are one devic branch of the Sky Spirits who oversee these portal transit energies. They work with the extraterrestrials who come through the atmosphere—the ones who find that necessary—and the Star Beings make their way through the atmosphere to the planet. Of course, all of these beings, as are all beings, are extraterrestrial in origin. They have been working on this planet long before humans were introduced. The Matakin are emissaries. The Matakin are mediators, and they oversee the travel from the heavens to the Earth and vice versa. They are also related to the weather patterns. And so the Matakin are very concerned with the whole issue of chem trails and geoengineering through atmospheric interruption by humans. There will be a lot more for them to say about this in the future. They are laying that seed right now for me to consider.

But the Star Knowledge Conference is one of the most important gatherings wherein spirits of all kinds come together and work together in conscious relationship to the Star Beings and in conscious attention to the extraterrestrial origins of humanity.

—Wow! This is a very interesting moment in the development of humanity, for we are waking up to our extraterrestrial origins and recognizing that information provided through public media such as the X-Files television program barely scratched the surface and do so in a very limited way.

—Whoa! I just went over some big river, but I didn’t see the sign. Maybe there’s a sign here on the other end. It is—well, it says Lyon County. I’ll have to look that up. That’s quite a river. Cheshay anna hakamo hey sheyki anna hakamoah. Ah toshi anna makah. More to come.]

The Matakin Sky Spirits and the Spindle of Heaven

I’m sitting in the Powhatan Motel in Pocahontas, Illinois (really) feeling through the impulse to begin recording some of the information regarding this spot that I have been receiving over the past few years. To cut to the chase, I need to start fleshing out a picture of a class of beings who have introduced themselves to me as the Matakin. The Matakin are devas of the sky sphere, the atmosphere—the sphere of Atmos, Atman. And the primary element in the message they send through me is the existence of what they call the Spindle of Heaven.

I should begin with the feeling of the place and the utter ecstasy that it instills in me. I first noticed this effect about two years ago as my wife Anna and I were driving my daughter Tori back to her mother’s house in Kansas from our house in Ohio. For almost twenty years now I have driven this route along I-70 between these two states, and each time I drive through the Pocahontas area I am struck by the utter beauty of this glacial plane, of this amazing—stunning—plane of flat earth. And as I swoop into the perceived flatness of the earth’s sphere, my attention is lifted up into the atmosphere. The sky is so immense, so palpable, so inviting—and now, I realize, so alive. Alive with Sky Spirits.

And so these Sky Spirits began speaking to me—or through me—a little over a year ago, much of which I have recorded in voice memos but have yet to transcribe into written text. The element of their message that they wish for me to pass on at this moment is that of what they call the Spindle of Heaven.

Ptolemaicsystem-smallThe Spindle of Heaven is an energetic formation at least a mile high. (I do not yet know its precise dimensions, if such spatial parameters are even appropriate for trying to account for its magnificence.) The Spindle is a vortex that rises straight up from the earth into the heavens at a point roughly five miles due north of the village of Pocahontas at exit 36 on I-70. While its primary structure is what one would expect of a vortex, a kind of tornado-like funnel of energy, it also contains winding arms or ropes of energy that spin on a downward angle along its axis. These energetic arms are like tentacles that contain pods of some sort that serve as elevator cars, in a sense, for various beings that ride up and down the spindle as they arrive to this point on the globe from origins in space and beyond this spatial universe. (I do not know why such beings would need such pod-like conveyances. I have a sense that they serve as decompression chambers—or perhaps compression chambers would be more appropriate—as these various extra-planetary beings arrive to this planet.) The actual spot where the Spindle rises up from or drops down to the earth is remarkably calm energetically, much like the eye of a hurricane.

Key to its function is its continental location: Pocahontas, Illinois is roughly at the center point of the North American continent between the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico on the North-South axis and between the Atlantic ocean and the Continental Divide of the Rocky Mountains on the East-West axis. In terms of terrain, it is located at the point where the glaciated plains of the Midwestern region meet the foothills of the Ozarks and the hills of the Ohio Valley. In terms of tectonic structure, the Spindle is on the primary rim of the New Madrid Fault system. In terms of water systems, it is very close to the junctions of the Ohio and Missouri Rivers as they conjoin the Mississippi River. And in terms of subterranean structures, it sits at the eastern edge of a massive network of underground caverns, tunnels (physical and etheric), and subterranean waterways that spread underneath Missouri and Arkansas out into Kansas and Oklahoma.

It is not coincidental that the Cahokia Mounds just to the east of St. Louis are located only thirty miles southwest of the Spindle, for that mound complex served for millennia as a ceremonial reception center for terrestrial and extra-terrestrial conventions, so to speak.

powhatanI am told that the Spindle was and perhaps still is known to various indigenous peoples of this entire continental range, but I have not yet been told which tribes specifically have had interactions with and still might have knowledge of the Spindle. I do know that human interaction with it has taken place far into the past beyond the presumed origins of the current peoples of this region.

In fact, one reason I am being asked to present this information at this moment is to begin the process of reaching out to those who might have knowledge of and experience with the Spindle. The time has arrived for a reconvening of the various peoples and entities that are involved in the recalibration of the Spindle for what will be momentous times in the near future.

Message from the People from Below

Reflecting_cavern_lakeWe are the People from Below, one of the groups with whom you have been making contact on a very subtle level throughout the past year or more. You have felt our presence especially when traveling across Missouri and through western Illinois, and we have much more to tell you about that particular region.

But at this point we wish to focus on this portal here on your property—the Second Portal.

As you know from the ceremony you were led to perform last year on the Solstice, we began on that day a serious stage of our Emergence into this, the very end of your Fourth World as the inauguration of the Fifth.

And we have spent the year testing the waters, so to speak, for it is here at this Second Portal that the waters of the Earth rise above the surface in these sacred pools seen over by the fairies who dedicate their existence to such a process.

emergenceWe speak with and are guided by the Kachinas who have drawn you here, the Kachinas who see over the subterranean passage from one world to the next, from one particular manifestation of being to another, and it has been their job to oversee the arrangements of power, the configurations of energy that make their way into the complex known as the structure of life in a given World.

For each World has its own energetic structure, its own complex of relations of energy, and you are at a turning point now, the transition from one to another, and it is this confluence of world energies that creates a lot of the excitement and a lot of the chaos of the present moment.

For many people are waking up; many people are being instigated to move.

Not everyone understands the particular impulse that drives them. Not everyone recognizes the calling to a higher path than they may have been aware of in previous days in their lives. And some people under the influence of these impulses turn in what we might say are negative directions from a certain limited perspective. They are directions that are not fully consciously aligned with the higher purpose of all beings.

There are others, on the other hand, who are recognizing this calling, who are seeing that they are part of a much larger universal contingent of energies from the heart.

burning-cosmic-heartIt is your hearts that open you up to the possibilities of this change from one World to another. And it is through the heart that these worlds open up and unfold for you. Your heart is itself an abyss; your heart is a black hole, in a sense; your heart is a portal that transports you from one realm to another. You contain All That Is within your heart. You have access to All That Is within your heart. So it is not moving outward but deeper and deeper inward to the vast universe that is at the center of your own being, in your heart. So when Don Juan speaks of a path with heart, it is in part recognition of the heart that is within, that contains All That Is that is a path inward.

Waterhouse-Hylas-NymphsYou have felt the call of the fairies in this pool for the last year and a half, and you have felt them much more strongly in recent days. This is because it is a time for you to gather your forces, your resources, to bring your tribe together and to focus on this Emergence that plays itself out with the Winter Solstice and the Summer Solstice.

We ask you to prepare for an event of such recognition here on this property with the people who you believe will understand, who you know will understand the purpose of such a call. We wish for you to make it as open as possible. As soon as you initiate such a call, things will fall into place. Bring those forces here together in unity of the heart—the universal heart at the center of all beings—and all else will fall into place.

We thank you for the energy you all have brought to your locale, to your continent, to your universe.

Charging the Fairy Line

During my meditation session yesterday morning here at the Super 8 Motel in Lawrence, Kansas and again this morning at Woodridge Park campground I was approached by a species of Fairies referring to themselves as the Subterranean Channel Fairies. They said that they work on the energetic streams that flow underground from Lawrence to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. (I assume that the stream goes beyond these two end points, but I haven’t confirmed that yet.)

I made contact with them in July of 2012 when Anna and I first moved to Lawrence for what turned out to be our three-week residence here before going to Finland. I learned at that time from them about this energetic stream extending through the mid-region of the country. I have known of it primarily as the Fairy Stream and understand that it is a subterranean portal or tunnel of a sort. It is connected throughout the region to extremely deep springs and other water channels as well as to massive crystals and crystal deposits.

While I was happy to be reacquainted with the Channel Fairies again, I was curious about whether they had a specific task for me today. I am very pleased to be introduced and reintroduced to various species of entities, but I am also hoping to get beyond the introductory phase and into some practical work.

Their answer was that, yes, they wanted me to know that there is one particular function that humans are especially talented at, even designed for, and that is serving as an energetic conduit that joins the energies of the heavens and the Earth. The Fairies told me that the Kyy Breath and the Dragon Heart Meditation are both designed to assist in this function.

A key aspect of this work is to channel the energies from below and above through the Heart Chakra. If one draws the Earth energies up to the heart and the heavenly energies down to the heart simultaneously and then projects those energies as a unified stream out through the Heart Chakra, then a person can “charge the channels,” as it was called. We can direct this unified energy stream through the energetic channels of the planet and thereby provide a level of human consciousness to the planetary stream. This is, in fact, one of the highest functions that a human being can serve, sanctifying the power points and projecting them as sacred sites or temples.

After being told this, I began channeling the unified heaven and Earth energies through my Heart Chakra into this energetic channel stretching from Lawrence to Arkansas. The effect was astounding. My entire being was charged to the highest degree and I could see the energetic continuum open up and expand from here to Eureka Springs. The feeling of engaging in such sacred work is beautiful and overwhelming. I was charged for the rest of the day.

Smoky Mirror Vision

Yesterday, just as the day before, the Kachinas gave me more information concerning the Smoky Mirror, as they call it. What they are referring to—at least in terms of my own experience—is the smoky mist that fills the landscape when I enter into the Etheric mode of vision. Whenever a spirit guide asks me to go into my Etheric vision, my field of vision fills with this smoky mist.

mistThe first time I was conscious of this phenomenon was in December 2010 just before New Year’s Eve. I had just returned to Athens from Christmas in Kansas and, more significantly, my first trip to Crestone, Colorado. Given the life-altering impact of that Crestone experience (which I will describe elsewhere), I was still pretty high in the multidimensional plane when I returned with my family to Athens. I was guided to go immediately to Stroud’s Run, despite the fact that it would soon be turning dark so late in the Winter afternoon.

When I arrived at Stroud’s Run I immediately heard an owl calling and was asked to go to the owl. When I arrived at the spot where the owl had been calling from it was now completely dark. But I knew I had been called there for a reason, so I stayed and began tuning in to the earth spirit energy, despite the fact that I had felt the presence of disturbing spirits on my hike to this lakeside spot. I was years later to realize that this “disturbing” spirit energy was actually the energetic signature of Elf presence, but I could only interpret such energy at this time as ghostly and spooky. In any case, as I tuned in to the earth spirit energy, the air surrounding me and the hill I was facing began to fill with a smoky light. The air was literally glowing in the darkness as I felt myself drawn more deeply into the landscape. I was told that I was facing a Fairy Portal and that this was an initiation of sorts.

The important point here is that this same smoky glow in the atmosphere has now become the clarifying element of my visual experience as I enter into the Etheric mode of seeing. This is true whether it is a bright sunny day or the middle of the dark night. Now the Kachinas told me that this glowing mist is what the ancient Mesoamericans referred to as the Smoky Mirror. I took this information in during the first mention of it two days ago but did not in any way understand what this might mean. How, after all, could smoke-filled air be compared to a mirror? If this experience is in some way a mirror, where is my own reflection? Not knowing the answer, I nevertheless continued in this misty atmosphere for the next hour or so as I wandered from one sacred spot to another in our forest, engaging with the attendant spirits of each location as I saw them materialize in the mist.

I was led through exactly the same itinerary yesterday, beginning with the Third Portal (whose attendant spirits are the Kachinas themselves) to the Mother Tree in the Elf Circle to the Sacred Mound and finally on to the Sacred Well. The attendant spirits of the Sacred Well are, not surprisingly, Water Fairies, and these Fairies, accompanied by the Kachinas, led me each day through a deep and elaborate meditation on my developing understanding of and work with the water energy systems of the planet.

smokyDuring yesterday’s water system meditation-grounding, the Kachinas again told me that I was enveloped in the Smoky Mirror. Confused as ever, I asked them then how this experience could be called a mirror when what I saw was a thick luminescence but nothing resembling my own reflection in that scene before me. The Kachinas said, “What you see is the world as reflected in a dimension that is the effect of your own reflecting power.” This did not help me much in getting their point, so they continued by explaining, “What you see is from the perspective of your own eyes. Your eyes themselves are the plane of the mirror. You are seeing from the other side of the mirror. This, in other words, is the world seen from the other side of that reflective plane. You yourself are the reflective surface of the mirror.”

Suddenly everything made sense. My own eyes are the reflective glass of the mirror, and the shift that occurs in my visual field is the result of this shift into a reflective mode of vision. As I began to recognize the import of their words (and the energy accompanying the words themselves), I was reminded of the meditative slogan or mantra they had given me the day before: “Let the Earth’s Inner Sun shine through your heart.”

And now I see that this is, at least in part, the source of the illumination that fills the experiential space before me when I enter into the Etheric mode of seeing. The light of that Inner Sun shines out from my heart, and its reflecting rays illuminate the world before me. These rays fill the space before me with light and thus appear as the smoky mist that alters the visual medium in such a way that the spiritual dimension of the world before our eyes becomes perceptible. In this way I—and every other being entering into this sacred energetic exchange—function as the Blue Star Kachina, the reflective plane that allows for the shining of the Earth’s Inner Sun, the Blue Star, to shine in the world as a light of revelation. In this process, under the tutelage of the Kachinas, we ignite our own Kachina capacity.

blue sunWhat this suggests, by extension, is that the prophecy of the coming Blue Star Kachina, like that of the Second Coming of Christ, does not refer to the coming of a single individual identified as the Blue Star Kachina or the returned Christ. What it refers to instead is the fact that once we as a collective agency enter into our own Kachina or Christ being, we then are the Blue Star Kachina Christ that shines as the manifestation of this elevation of our collective spirit.

Monitor Answers My Question on the Kachina Spirits and the People from Below

GABRIEL:       Hi, Monitor. This is Gabriel Hartley. I’m calling for Anna Oksanen and myself. I actually was moved to change my question. So I have a question that is not written down. I composed a short list of items to include. Our question now concerns our relationship with entities who have identified themselves to us as “Kachina Spirits.” This began on a conscious level for us when Anna had a vision of a Kachina while we were together in our first visit at Findhorn in Scotland. But this past summer, we had a very profound engagement with Kachina Spirits while we were meditating in Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. That vision lingered for many days, culminating in a vision I had in the Santuario at Chimayó of a Kachina Christ.

Since returning to Ohio, we have been in touch with these entities, through what we know as the third portal on the property and have entered into quite a bit of communication with them. As I was driving through Missouri a few months ago, I was alerted to the fact that they were connecting us to inhabitants of a subterranean dimension that’s in the process of an emergence, an emergence of what’s been identified to us as the “People from Below.” And so on the winter solstice, we were led to perform a ceremony to aid in this emergence process.

We’re very excited by this and what we’re learning. At the same time, we want to be appropriately respectful for the indigenous peoples who engage with entities called Kachinas. We’re also wondering if there is any connection between these experiences and the mysterious language that I often find myself speaking in ecstatic states? The Elves on Flexible Identity at Solstice Time

This morning as Anna and I were doing the Kyy Breath pranayama sequence that the Kyy serpent spirits taught me last year in Finland, I got to the second stage of the instructions where I normally indicate that it’s time for the “Spiral Breath.” As occasionally happens, this morning I felt inspired to add more specific details and ended up saying, “Spiral Breath, focusing on the Celtic and Hopi Spirals.” As soon as I said this, a voice that by now I immediately recognize as that of the Elf representative working with us corrected me, saying, “It’s not simply the Celtic or Hopi Spiral. The Spiral symbol is universal and has been granted to cultures of all times and places!”


As soon as Callador, the Elf representative, said this, I immediately agreed. In fact, this is in line with the message I have been receiving since my initial communication with the Kachinas during our travels through Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, and Taos in August. At that time I was struck by the coincidence of the presence of the Spiral symbol etched in stone in Ireland and the U.S. Southwest. We had been engaging with the Spiral throughout Ireland in June and now were doing so again in the region that is now called Colorado and New Mexico, and I was getting the clear sense that this was not at all accidental but a true coincidence in the root sense of incidents happening in direct relation to one another, things that were co-incident.

The larger point beyond what the Spiral symbolizes was the fact that various human groups at different times and places have been receiving the exact same symbolic images. And it was clear that Anna and I were being drawn to the image itself for very similar reasons. As the Kachinas made clear in August, the Spiral represents, among other things, the circulation of the sacred winds, including the breath. The ceremonial kivas are intended to take advantage of and even to stage the expression of these sacred winds. And this symbolic relationship between the concept-experience of the sacred winds and the Spiral image is a universal expression that goes beyond the limits of any specific cultural symbolic system.

The Kachinas before and Callador now stressed this point that certain symbolic terms and features should not be strictly associated with a specific culture. No individual person or culture can claim ownership of a particular image. This fact is important not just in terms of universal transcultural access but also in terms of an expansive notion of identity. This expansive notion of identity is related to the idea of universal symbols in that we need to stop imagining that one particular thing is what it is because it has some stable and unique core identity based on specific attributes. In fact, all things are far more mobile and plastic than we normally assume—as Buddhists have been contending for centuries. Each thing is at any moment the result of a specific constellation of frequencies and energies. So our notion of identity should be much more mobile and flexible in order to take this range of constellations into account.

I should comment at this point that although I began these notes over twenty-four hours ago (it is now 10:03 am on Tuesday, December 17), I have found it extremely difficult to get through the process of recording my meditation experience from yesterday morning regarding the flexible nature of identity. I see this in itself as a sign of inner and outer resistances to this message and therefore a sign that the message itself is far more important than I let myself think initially. Soon after starting the recording process yesterday, Anna and I found ourselves going through extremely intense emotional states individually and as a couple. We would go through a beautiful, romantic period of an hour or two of kissing, gathering firewood, listening to beautiful music, all leading us into a heightened state of ecstasy. This ecstasy would then almost immediately be followed by an equally intense period of arguing and shouting about personal boundaries and individual competencies and varying ways that we each approach and process things. And then we’d fall into each other’s arms again, madly expressing our deep love.

So it does not seem at all coincidental—in the usual sense of this term—that one of the topics Anna and I found ourselves passionately arguing about turned out to have to do with this notion of flexible identity and definition itself! Over the past few weeks I have been getting bits and pieces of suggestions that it will be important for us to do something relating to the upcoming Winter Solstice here on the Portal property. So what we found ourselves arguing about in the midafternoon was exactly what this “something” we might do might in reality be. We found ourselves getting deep down into the recognition that each of us perceives and responds to the very same energies and entities and experiences in quite different ways. This means that the same energetic experience of the Elves, for example, would lead to one kind of expression within me and to a very different kind of expression within Anna. Yet we were responding to identical impulses while addressing these impulses in our own ways. After forty years of intense academic intellectual activity, I, for example, find it quite natural to respond to things primarily through ideas and concepts; Anna, on the other hand, after a couple decades of intense graphic design activity, responds to things much more imagistically. And we both respond to these same things energetically but find ourselves resorting to differing methods of expressing our experiences of these energies.

This in itself is a perfect example of the need to be conscious of the flexible range of frequencies and energies that we call “identity.” What exactly is this experience we each have together? What are the better ways of approaching it, making sense of it, expressing our understandings of it? And what we concluded through this very important process of renegotiating our communicational styles was that each of us is right, and that together we are even more right! In fact, it appears that one crucial reason we have been called together as a couple on this spiritual path is to find the appropriate blend of our individual natures and to produce a more powerful and effective third position that serves as the constellation of each our energetic fields. Our working hypothesis at this point, then, is that we have much more to offer others through our combined efforts than either of us would have on our own. This freighted alchemy offers a mixture of potentials that takes on a flexible compound identity of its own.

Now I will return to my initial response to the message of the Elves concerning the need to loosen up my sense of identity. One reason their message is especially important to me at this point in my development is that in the past six months I have been finding myself in conversation with beings who call themselves Kachinas. And these beings lead me through various meditations on elements that they refer to as kivas, sipapus, Ant People, Emergence, Blue Star Kachinas, and other things the terms of which call us to think of the Pueblo cultures of the U.S. Southwest. After having spent over a decade intensely involved with the political struggles for indigenous rights in this hemisphere, I have been trained to be especially sensitive to anything that smacks of cultural appropriation, especially the appropriation of religious images and rituals. So in response to this sensitivity, I have very deliberately tried to avoid the typical New Age tendency to resort to a variety of tribal images and practices as a way of expressing my own spiritual growth and understanding. This means, then, that I immediately get nervous when I find myself called on to write about my experiences with beings called Kachinas and Ant People, for the last thing I want to do is trespass upon the sacred rights of any people, tribal or other.


But what the Kachinas insist on in response to my reticence is that they themselves have come to me; they themselves have identified themselves as Kachinas; they themselves have drawn my attention to the Ant People before I ever heard of such entities in any literature about, for example, Hopi belief systems. And they insist that they are not calling on me to invade Hopi or Zuni or other Puebloan territory and claim it as my own. What they are calling on me to do is to listen to their messages and respond to their energies with an open mind and an open heart.

And this again brings up the issue of identity. Whatever the provenance of the term Kachina, can it be said that one specific human grouping has exclusive access to such spirits? The Kachinas tell me time and again that they have been forever available to peoples across the planet and that they go by various other names (such as Kahuna). Whatever the power of the names we are given to refer to them by, the identity of the entities stretches far beyond any one culture’s imagination and participates in a planetary and extra-planetary exchange of frequencies and informational structures and processes. For whatever reason, they have identified themselves to me by the name of Kachina while asking me to recognize that their identity is not in any way exhausted by such a term.

So here we are on the verge of the Winter Solstice—which, by the way, is the beginning of Kachina season in the Northern Hemisphere, the day on which the Kachinas come back to the northern peoples to assist them through the hard and beautiful days of winter. And so here we are, Anna and I, nearing the darkest evening of the year and considering what this means for us, what this calls on us to do, and how this calls on us to expand our verbal, conceptual, imagistic, and energetic repertoires as we open up and make more flexible our senses of the nature of identity—our own and that of everything else in creation.
